CLINIC DATES WITH WILL RAWLIN

We started with The Partner doing his first long format 4*. Our aim was to have a relaxed dressage test rather than a tense anxious test, which is his usual default, particularly on big occasions.  This was definitely achieved with it being his most relaxed test ever.  
Cross country was always going to be tough for all horses, first timers or not. It was a very strong track with continual undulations and jumping efforts with no where to be complacent - a true test.
On the last very steep hill there was a combination with 3 elements, many horses were tired by then, The Partner included, so he joined the list of horses to have penalties there. 
He then got a second wind having travelled down  to the water and finished the course well.
Unfortunately, I was very stupid and crossed my tracks on one of the long routes earlier on in the course which incurred a further 20 penalties. 
None the less, I was very proud of The Partner for finishing the course (many didn't) and he came out well for the trot up on Sunday. He really did give me everything.
It always makes the last day easier when you are sitting on a jumper like The Partner - he came out super fresh with springs on and jumped an immaculate clear round.  
Despite being further down the leader board than I would like, we have come away knowing that we have another very good 4* horse in the stable and look forward to seeing what the rest of the season brings for him.

What unbelievable company to be in when lying 10th after dressage, with V.I.P Vinnie.  Another very relaxed test, not quite a clear round with 3 small mistakes, but never the less a great test. 
Cross country was a different story. We set out with V.I.P Vinnie feeling unbelievable  - but feeling VERY strong.  At the 2nd fence I asked him to come back but got no response and this then led onto a downward hill where he took off.  We managed to stay together until fence 7 where he was doing his own thing and ran past and this happened again coming out of the second water where we had two angle brushes. At this point I decided to retire as there was nothing to gain by continuing. This is the final straw, as this has been a theme this season. He is so fit and strong compared to the last two seasons and now it is back to the drawing board, probably with a change of bit.  Very frustrating as he is more than capable of jumping this level, and it would be in his comfort Zone. 

A huge well done to Helen West and her team for putting on such a fantastic event - let alone with only 7 weeks notice  - and they had gone all out. 

Also a massive thank you to Izzy Mckeeman who looked after the horses superbly all weekend, they didn't want for anything and also to Michael Hewlett for keeping the show on the road at home.

Now to concentrate on the youngsters who will start competing in July.

V.I.P Vinnie is now retired from Eventing. He is going to be loaned out and have a career in Dressage.  We will be forever grateful for everything that was achieved with him and everything he taught us. 

Purchased as a 4 year old and was obviously talented from day one. He hasn’t disappointed since.  He loves to be the centre of attention and has always been top dog. 

He likes to perform on the big stages and they bring the best out in him. He now realises there are some young guns around and let's them know who's boss! 

His dressage has improved hugely over the years and we look forward to his future success.

Following XC retirement at his first 5* Vinnie had 2022 on the sidelines and although he competed at the beginning of 2023 it was decided that he should be retired from Eventing. 

Achievements:

2021

3rd After Dressage at his first 5* at Bicton International. Sadly I had to pull him up after the second fence on the xc as I felt a change in his stride pattern. I am so glad I noticed as he injured a tendon. I don't like to imagine what would have happened had I not felt this. Nothing like the HIGHS and LOWS of the sport all in the space of 24 hours at the highest level.

Safe to say that moving yards in the middle of the season isn't ideal - however, the team worked unbelievably hard to make it all happen and leaving our last yard in immaculate condition.  A huge thanks goes to all of team. 

Think we were all ready for a holiday once it was done but it was time to bring all the horses back into work for the second half of the season.

We had a very successful day with three horses coming out at Aston Le Walls (3) for their first run after their spring 3 days.  They all did exactly what was asked of them - 3 good tests and double clears with steady cross country.

Mackenzy is stepping up to Intermediate next week at Burgham, with Camee de Muze doing the 3*S and Ballycoog Breaker Boy the 4*S.  Really looking forward to being back there as missed it last year.

BRITISH EVENTING TEAM CONFIRMED FOR 2024 NATIONS CUP ARVILLE

British Eventing is pleased to announce the squad that have been selected to represent Great Britain at Arville Nations Cup between 15 – 18 August are as follows:

Alex Bragg from Bridgwater, Somerset, with 11-year-old gelding Ardeo Premier, owned by Debbie and Neill Nuttall.

 Selena Milnes from Clevedon, Somerset, with 10-year-old gelding Cooley Snapchat, owned by Mr & Mrs William Rucker.

Aaron Miller from Malmesbury, Wiltshire, with 10-year-old gelding Count Onyx, owned by Alexandra Van Tuyll.

Will Rawlin from Hungerford, Berkshire, with 14-year-old gelding The Partner, owned by rider and Andy and Miranda Rawlin.

The squad will be accompanied by Chef d’Equipe Philip Surl.

The British Eventing teams are supported by the British Equestrian Federation’s World Class Programme, funded by UK Sport through the National Lottery. The Programme focuses on identifying talent, developing potential and maximising medal-winning performances on the world stage.
